Lazy Saturday

Spending some quiet time here before I get ready to drive two hours to meet my friend Louise for lunch. Louise is an old friend I've known since grade 8 (which is sadly overy 25 years ago now). We both grew up the British Columbia Interior but are both on Vancouver Island now. It is nice having her close by. I'm just waking up here, after a nice sleep in after hubby left for work. Drinking coffee and catching up on my favourite blogs.

Yesterday I got to knit at work. I was on a boring, three hour conference call. I was told it was going to be pretty bad, so was prepared with some needles and yarn in my desk drawer. Good thing too. The conference call was about how to use a new computer data base. I swear, some of the people didn't have a clue about computers. Some of the topics were such things as how to use scroll bars, pop up menus, and the back button on the browser. Painful!!!!!!!!!!! Oh well, I happily knit away and finished a dishcloth. Not exciting knitting, but a no brainer and something I really needed anyway!

Finally, just had to catch up to my fellow bloggers by doing these two quizzes:

Granny knitter
You may not be a granny, but you've got the
mentality. Hard work and artistic vision lead
to your beautiful knitted results.

Are you a knitter?

(funny, I kind of had a feeling I was an old granny already!)

Yay Friday!

By the end of the week, I'm usually very tired, and today is no exception. This is due in part to going to Curves at 5:45 a.m. I still can't believe that I'm doing that, since I am NOT a morning person at all! It is so nice to have it over and done with, and then be able to come home right after work. I'm happier and have way more energy since getting back into an exercise regime. I've been knitting for a few hours after dinner, reading for a bit, then hitting the pillow by 10 at the latest. I've been more into knitting this week than blogging, hence the lack of entries here. Also, since I started new projects this last week, I don't have much to show you at this point. Hopefully I'll be able to update with WIP pictures this weekend. Saturday I'm driving to visit a friend who lives two hours away, but hopefully Sunday will yield lots of knitting time.

Today is Jo's birthday, be sure to go visit her
blog and wish her a Happy Birthday. Jo has talked about setting something up which lists knitting bloggers birthdays, which I think is a fabulous idea (especially since mine is next month, ha ha)!

Finally, since I'm getting my hair streaked after work today, I thought today's Friday Five was quite appropriate:

1. Is your hair naturally curly, wavy, or straight? Long or short?
Straight with a few waves as it gets longer.

2. How has your hair changed over your lifetime?
It's really changed in the last few years, I think due to age. It tends to be somewhat flyaway and frizzy now, which I absolutely hate. Anyone with hair product recommendations?

3. How do your normally wear your hair?
I'm a wash and wear kind of person. It is shoulder length right now, some layers in the back. On a hot day I like to put it up. It has grown quite a bit lately, and it is the first time in a number of years that it has been long enough to put up.

4. If you could change your hair this minute, what would it look like?
Hmmm, long, thick and shiny I guess. Don't know that I'd change the style or length much at this point other than that.

5. Ever had a hair disaster? What happened?
Not for a long time, fortunately. I would equate the awful home perms my mother used to subject me to as being quite disasterous however!

Happy weekend everyone!

Looping and Smooching!

Finished my first pair of socks today using the Magic Loop method:

This is without a doubt my favourite method for sock knitting. I had also tried the 2 circ method for my last pair, but found the extra needles flapping around rather annoying. Magic loop uses only one circ, so that is no longer a problem. I never really minded using DPNs, but like using circs (either method) much better. The knitting seems to go much quicker (not that it's a speed contest), and I found the gusset and toe decreases much easier to do as well. So for now, my method of choice is magic loop!

Next sock project:
Broadripple socks from the summer knitty. I recently bought some pink Cascade Fixation yarn, and discovered that is exactly what this pattern calls for. I'm casting on here tonight!

I'm happy to say that I finally started Smooching today:

The colour I'm using is Boudoir, which I suspect is discontinued as it is no longer on most of the colour charts. Starting this project was a bit of an ordeal. It took three or four times before I finally got it right, but I sure was pleased when it worked! I used the cable cast on, as recommended a while back by Kirsten. Love this cast on, it will definitely be the one I use most often now.

Finally, I'm also about to start a third project, I found another knit-a-long, using Bonnie Marie's U can 2 shell pattern.
If you click on the lovely Button in my sidebar made by Tiffany you can learn more about this knit-a-long. I'll be using Rowan All Season's Cotton in colour 199 Ravish (a lovely light mauve colour).

I think that's it for me for now. Have a good week everyone!
