Close to my Heart

Upsetting and emotionally exhausting day at work today, but I won't get into it here. So it was nice to get home from work, and see that my order from Karp Styles had arrived. I received lots of great stuff: The Magic Loop book, 2 Patons Upside Downers books (one with instructions for cardigans, the other for pullovers), an Ann Norling pattern for a Checkerboard Shell (which I just may make soon with some yarn that's been in my stash for years), Cabin Fever Lacey Vee pattern (matches the Lacey Vee Cardigan pattern I already have so would like to make the set soon), and the Harmony Guides 450 Knitting Stitches Volume 2. So all this stuff should keep me busy for a while! Rather than post a picture of my purchases, I thought I'd send you all over to Karp Styles, you can check everything out there. I can't resist putting a plug in for this online store. I have purchased many items from her over the years, and always with great service. So go have a look, and if you buy anything, tell Jackie that BrendaH sent you!

Earlier in the week, I purchased Sally Melville's Knitting Experience Book 1 The Knit Stitch. I had heard so many good things about this book, and was not at all disappointed. What a fabulous book, I think it is probably the best knitting book I own! So many things I'd love to make out of it, including the infamous Einstein Coat.

Off to work on Bob, which is progressing nicely since I frogged it last weekend. I'll also be thinking about which project to make next. So many patterns, so little time!

I spent a good amount of time this long weekend working on Bob. I thought that for sure I would finish the body today and start the sleeves. My plan was to show a pic of the completed body here with today's post. No such luck. Turns out that my tension had changed from the time I knit my gauge swatch. After finishing the body and the front raglan shaping, I was thinking that it seemed rather big, so I tried it on. WAY to big! Checked my gauge swatch, definitely smaller stitches there. After much hemming and hawing as to whether or not the garment was REALLY too big, I conceded that it was, I wouldn't be happy if I continued, and that frogging was definitely in order. DARN!!!! How could this have happened? I wasn't knitting any differently. Please, tell me I'm not the only one this has happened to (you can talk to me in my lonely comments section)! The only GOOD side of this is that I got to use my new yarn winder when I frogged. Worked like a charm too, much quicker than winding by hand. I've now cast on with smaller needles, wish me luck!
