A New Start!

Yesterday I had one of those awful moments moments while trying to get dressed for work. My clothes just aren't fitting me the way they should be, and I had a hard time finding something decent to wear. I weigh myself regularly, and knew that the scale needle was slowly and regularly moving the wrong way. At the same time, I felt powerless to do anything about it. Two years ago, I lost 50 pounds on Weight Watchers. I vowed then that I would NOT gain back the weight that I had worked so hard to take off. Unfortunately, 20 of those lost pounds have found their way back, and I just can't let more return, so have now determined a plan of action:
1. Join
Curves. Several work friends and cyber friends go to Curves, and speak very highly about it. So today, I went for the first time. I can go 2 or 3 more times before making the decision to join, but I can't see why I wouldn't. I really enjoyed it.
2. Attend Weight Watchers to weigh in every week. I haven't gone for about 1 1/2 years, which is part of the problem. It is something that keeps me accountable. As a friend of mine says, there's something about being weighed by a stranger that keeps you on track. Of course, I need to get back to following their program and counting points again as well.

Why you may ask, am I boring you with this in a Knitting Blog? Quite honestly, it is for purely selfish reasons. It is another way to hold me accountable. The more people who know about this, then I will have no choice but to carry forward with this plan and not make excuses to back out. For the same reason, I immediately announced my plans to some friends at work yesterday. I'd be too embarassed to not follow through now!

I'm really excited about my decision. I've had success with Weight Watchers before, and I can do it again. I'm looking forward to my clothes fitting me and feeling better about myself overall. I am back in control. Wish me luck!

One more day until the weekend, yay! I've had a pretty good week. We're finally getting some nice spring weather here on the west coast, so I've been enjoying getting back into my spring wardrobe. I even found a couple things I had forgotten all about to wear with sitcom chic! This weekend I need to sort through my clothes, and get ruthless and get rid of lots of stuff. I have so much that I haven't worn in some time, and really no room for it all. Wish me luck! Back to sitcom....thanks for the positive comments about it. I wore it to work a few days ago, and received lots of complements on it, which of course made me feel great. I had really hoped to show you all a picture of me wearing it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a picture I was happy with. If you'd like to see a funny picture in which I cut my head off, you can click here. The other thing I was just a little dissapointed with, is that even with the 7/8th inch ribbon sewed along the edges, it still rolls somwehat, although not bad enough that I won't wear it. The hem rolls a bit too, so I'm thinking I may sew ribbon on the bottom as well. I'll let you know if I decide to do this, and if it helps.

Still plugging away on the ankle socks. The toe of the first one is waiting to be grafted this weekend, and I just started the second tonight. I'll start the second blueberry waffle sock (first waiting for toe grafting as well) once the ankle socks are complete as I need these ones for a gift pretty quick. Still haven't decided whether or not to give the wool blueberry waffle socks as a June birthday gift or to hold on to them until Christmas.

To close today's post, check this out for some comic relief:

I think this is quite well-suited, considering the Flinstones was one of my favourite cartoons as a kid!

Finally a nice weekend! Bonus that I have today off too. Had a good knitting weekend. I should have been outside, but have been fighting a cold since the rainy Sun Run, so stayed inside and took it easy.

Sitcom Chic is done!

I ended up having to sew the 7/8" grosgrain ribbon on the edges due to rolling (as recommended in several other blogs), completed while watching the Canucks playoff game last night (darn, they lost). I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I'll try to get a picture of me actually wearing it. Hopefully hubby can take one for me when I'm dressed for work one day. Still trying to figure out the best thing to wear it with to show it off properly!

I cast on for Bob yesterday. Here's the gauge swatch that I did up and even washed (after reading
this forum in Knitter's Review and feeling guilty that I've never done it):

The yarn I am using is Schaffhauser Eviva in magenta, purcahsed from Elann.

Finished the first blueberry waffle sock on the weekend as well, when I had a realization. I'm knitting this sock in Emu Superwash from Elann, which is 100% wool. I was planning to give these socks as a birthday gift in June. My realization was that it might be kind of odd to give wool socks in June, so these may get put away for Christmas. Would really appreciate readers' thoughts and opinions about this. As a result of this conundrum, I thought it appropriate to start another gift pair needed soon. So, I'm making BlessYour Cotton Socks in Patons Look at me yarn, high energy verigated colourway. I love this yarn!

I guess that's it for now. Have a good day everyone! No business trips for me this week, so I should have more time for blogging and knitting.
