Close to my Heart

Well, except for grafting the toe of the second one, I've now finished my first pair of socks! I thought I'd have it done way earlier in the day than it actually was, partly due to a few distractions, such as removing a virus from the computer (with success, fortunately). Tomorrow I'll post a picture and information about the pattern source. I'm back to working on the dishcloth for now (in anticipation of starting a second pair of socks tomorrow in self-patterning ringel jacquard).

Am I ever glad it's Friday! Looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend, which will hopefully include finishing my first pair of socks, and starting another. I turned the heal tonight, but realized that I was far too tired to continue any further without making some serious mistakes. I put the sock down and decided to cast on for a washcloth. I always like to have one or two kicking around to give as gifts with my homemade soaps, and since I have none made at present, thought this would be a good thing to do. The other option was to read (currently reading Plains of Passage by Jean Auel) but knew I'd fall right asleep if I did! Does it ever feel funny working with long needles rather than the DPN's I've become used to in the last week.

Thought I'd check and see if anyone is actually reading my blog. I'm not currently linked up to any blog webrings, although I might do that soon. The only way people would access my blog would be from the link on my website. So, if you are reading this, I'd really appreciate it if you would use the e-mail link to the left of this, and let me know you visited my Blog!

Well I managed to complete the first sock today. Turning the heel was somewhat stressful, I have some major work to do on the Kitchener stitch, but otherwise am fairly happy with this first attempt. I will not however, attempt to do the toe decreases OR the Kitchener when DH is home and awake, it will have to be saved for when I am home alone (which is during the day on Saturday and Sunday when he is at work) as it just makes it so much easier to concentrate! I was determined to finish this tonight before going back to work tomorrow.

I finished another baby blanket last night, and realized why I am tired of crocheting.  In less than two months, among
other things I have completed two full size afghans, and two baby blankets.  I am however quite pleased at how these items turned out.  I mentioned in my last entry that I would take a picture of the teardrop baby blanket.  I finally did so today, and if you'd like to see it, you can go
here.  I also took a picture of the one I finished last night. This one is a little different, as instead of the more typical baby pastels, I used primary colours.  I am very pleased with how this turned out, I think it is probably my favourite of all the many baby blankets I have made.  You can see a pic of it here,
and the close-up here
I was very fortunate too, as I thought I was going to run out of the yellow yarn, but I had almost exactly enough, phew!

I have spent the majority of the weekend making my first socks.  Very time consuming, but so much fun to be doing something different.  I am using Patons Kroy sock yarn in chelsea tweed.  I picked this colour as I thought it would look nice with jeans.  I was hoping to finish one of the socks this weekend, but that remains to be seen.  I have spent the majority of today working on it, as well as most of the day yesterday (switched to the baby ripple in the evening while watching figure skating).   I'll be sure to write here when I finally finish the thing!
